boosting literacy confidence & attainment
Following the overwhelming success of Maths on the Move, the question became: Could similar active learning techniques be applied to raising literacy attainment? The answer was a resounding yes, and English on the Move (EOTM) was born.
Developed by educators, EOTM takes traditional literacy learning beyond the page, using movement and kinaesthetic activities to help pupils engage with reading, writing, and language in an innovative, memorable way.
By making literacy a dynamic, interactive experience, EOTM removes barriers to learning, helping pupils who struggle with traditional methods while also stretching high achievers. The result? More engaged learners, stronger literacy skills, and a lasting impact on pupil progress.

why EOTM For Schools
For many pupils, literacy can feel intimidating, abstract, or frustrating. Some struggle with comprehension, others lack confidence in speaking and reading aloud, and many disengage from writing because it feels repetitive or uninspiring.
Schools face growing challenges:
Bridging the attainment gap in reading and writing.
Building confidence in speaking, fluency, and comprehension.
Encouraging reluctant readers and writers to engage.
Challenging high achievers to develop creative and critical thinking.
Simply put, not every child learns best by sitting still at a desk.

A programme that works
EOTM transforms literacy learning by incorporating active learning techniques into reading, writing, and language development. Movement has been shown to increase cognitive function, memory retention, and engagement, helping pupils:
Strengthen comprehension and vocabulary through interactive learning.
Develop storytelling, sentence-building, and grammar skills through kinaesthetic activities.
Boost confidence in speaking, reading, and written expression.
Make literacy an enjoyable, engaging experience that pupils look forward to.
By making literacy more interactive, inclusive, and stimulating, EOTM helps pupils connect with language in new and meaningful ways.

Strengthens Core Literacy Skills Through Movement
EOTM engages pupils in active storytelling, interactive sentence-building, vocabulary challenges, and physical wordplay, helping them retain information better and improve fluency.

Helps Struggling Learners Catch Up & Thrive
For pupils who find literacy difficult, EOTM removes barriers to learning—breaking down complex reading and writing skills into fun, manageable activities that build confidence.

Challenges & Engages High Achievers
EOTM isn’t just for struggling pupils—it also stretches gifted and talented learners with advanced wordplay, creative writing challenges, and high-level comprehension tasks.

Builds Confidence in Reading, Writing & Speaking
Many pupils lack the confidence to read aloud, participate in discussions, or take risks in creative writing. EOTM creates a supportive environment where they feel encouraged to express themselves.
the science behind movement based literacy attainment
Physical Activity Enhances Language Retention
Studies show that movement increases blood flow to the brain, improving focus, concentration, and memory recall—helping pupils retain key literacy skills more effectively.
Speaking & Listening Skills Improve Through Action
Instead of passive learning, pupils physically engage with words, sentence structures, and stories, reinforcing understanding through verbal and physical repetition.
interactive Learning Reduces Literacy Anxiety
Many pupils feel pressure when reading or writing in a traditional classroom setting. By making literacy active, dynamic, and fun, pupils build confidence and remove learning barriers.
